On relocating to St Albans, our client was looking for expert local designers who could deliver on her brief for a new home.
The property eventually settled on was awkwardly laid out and dark, with earlier works constructed to a poor standard. Our very careful planning of the interior helped to unlock the property's potential without needing to build additional floorspace.
A comprehensive upgrade to the building fabric with crisp white insulated render, and high performance triple glazed alu-clad timber windows delivered a clean new look and a super comfortable and energy efficient home.
A luxurious master suite was formed in the loft, and innovative remodelling of the first floor enabled the creation of an additional bedroom without extending. At ground floor level, wholesale reconfiguration removed the dark windowless rear room to fit a new playroom, WC, cloakroom storage and pantry , leading through to a light filled kitchen / diner to the rear.
Intricately set out pocket doors and carefully placed internal glazing allows borrowed light into the internal spaces, transforming the feel of the house, and making every inch of floorspace work hard to provide a sense of space and light.
Our client had a clear vision for a striking monochrome interior to provide a canvas for her extensive art collection. Working in collaboration with Sam, of Redcurve (interior) Design, the project delivers a fresh and contemporary family home.
